Maus
Maus means to do something that requires concentration and a considerable amount of time, a little like our band does. We formed the band in 1993. Me and Eggert had been walking around with ideas of a band in our gut for a long time and were long past the third trimester. Drummer Danni was part of our neighbourhood gang and we managed to convince him to join shortly after we had welcomed Palli to the family. In March 1994 the band won the competiton Músíktilraunir (Music Experiments) with blood, sweat and tears. We released one of our songs on the compilation album Smekkleysa í hálfa öld (Bad Taste For Half a Century) and it found favour with radio presenters on the alternative radio stationThe X.
We released our first album Allar kenningar heimsins (All the Worlds Theories) on September the 17th 1994. Its named after a chapter in the novel Atómstöðin (The Atom Station) by Halldór Kiljan Laxness. Early in 1995 we signed a record contract with the record label Spor. We werent offered silver and gold; it was just a way to be able to release another album. The album Ghostsongs was mostly in English by request of the record label because there wasnt enough money for two different editions. It´s not an easy listening album and wasn´t very successful commercially even though it did get positive reviews. In 1996 we mostly concentrated on playing live and writing songs. In 1997, after a long break from releasing new songs, one of our offsprings ran away from home and found itself being played on the radio quite a lot. That song was égímeilaðig. We weren´t surprised when the song became our most popular song ever. It was released on the soundtrack of the movie Blossi:810551 which could easily be the most awkward movie I have ever seen. Earlier that year we met a very nice guy called Roger who plays keyboards in my favourite band, The Cure. We managed to lure him into playing a few songs with us for the new album Lof mér að falla að þínu eyra (Let Me Caress Your Ear) which was released on November the 4th 1997. All of a sudden our songs were climbing the charts and quite a few of the songs got extensive air play. Then we were voted the band of the year at the Icelandic Music Awards in 1998. In the summer we released the song Allt sem þú lest er lygi and (Inn í) kristalnótt on the compilation album Kvistir (Branches). Our newest album Í þessi sekúndubrot sem ég flýt (For the Split Seconds that I Float) was released exactly two years after the previous album on October the 4th 1999. We´ve received excellent reviews and everything is still hunky-dory.
