Pétur Kristjánsson
Pétur Kristjánsson formed the band Pops with his companions the day after his confirmation in the spring of 1966. He bought himself a bass and a week later the band performed in Laugarlaekjarskóli school.
The band changed a lot in its lifetime but Pétur was its front man most of the time. Soon after the band was formed Pétur tried his hand at singing as well as playing the bass. Pops never got to release their own album but they did record a single with actor/comedian Flosi Ólafsson in 1970, which was released on the SG label.
When Jónas R. Jónsson left the band Náttúra in May 1970, Pétur was offered his place. Pétur decided to give up the bass and become the lead singer of what was one of the most progressive rock bands in the country. A few years later he went to England with guitar player Einar Vilberg and drummer Gunnar Jökull Hákonarson. They were sent by entrepreneur Ólafur Laufdal, who worked in the club Glaumbær. He had some money and wanted the threesome to record four songs and release an album, which they did. Only two of the songs were released and the others are still gathering dust somewhere.
Since then Pétur has had a colourful and successful career. He formed the bands Svanfríður (1972-1973), Pelíkan (1973-1975), Paradís (1975-1977), Póker (1977-1979) and Start (1980-1983). After that, Pétur turned to music publishing and has been importing and publishing music ever since, in addition to performing regularly with his first band Pops and being a replacement singer with well-known foreign bands.
