Stefán Hilmarsson
Stefán Hilmarsson was born in Reykjavík in 1966. Stefán has made his living by performing and writing music more or less since 1986, the year he graduated from college.

First he sang with the band Sniglabandið (The Snail Band) but later mostly with Sálin hans Jóns míns (My Jón’s Soul) which was formed in 1988 and has been active ever since with the occasional break.

Other bands that Stefán has worked with are Pláhnetan, Straumar, 2falda beatið, Milljónamæringarnir, Bjargvætturinn Laufey and Bóas. From the start, he has made his mark as a song writer, his first copyrighted song being written in 1986.

Stefán has sung a multitude of songs on record, both by himself and others. Most of the songs were recorded with Sálin hans Jóns míns, which has released ten albums. Stefán has also released three solo albums. He is without a doubt one of the most productive song writers and performers of the 90s, as he has no less than 180 copyrighted songs to his credit.

In addition to writing for himself and his bands he has written for other performers, including Stjórnin, Milljónamæringarnir, Bjarni Arason, Eyjólfur Kristjánsson, Sigríður Beinteinsdóttir and Björgvin Halldórsson.

In 1995, Stefán took part in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar where he played Judas Iskariot. He has also taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest, both as a writer and a performer. As well as writing music and performing Stefán has written subtitles for films and television programs, worked in graphic design and designed web sites.

He is an active member of The Association of Song and Lyric Writers and been a board member since 1995. Stefán has received several awards for his music as a solo artist and with Sálin hans Jóns míns.
