Papar
The band Papar was formed in the Westman Islands in 1986 by Páll Eyjólfsson, Georg Ólafsson and Hermenn Ingi Hermannsson. Vignir Ólafsson joined the band in 1988 and the band moved to Reykjavík the same year.
Papars unique brand of celtic folk music was an instant success. They mostly played in pubs in the years 1988-1992 and became increasingly popular as the years went by. In 1991, Hermann Ingi Hermannsson left the band and the year after that Drummer James Olsen and singer Ingvar Jónsson joined the band. Fiddle guru Dan Cassidy began appearing with Papar more frequently and finally in 1995 he became a permanent member of the band.
Papar have established themselves as one of the most popular dance band in the country and they regularly tour Iceland. Since 1995 the line up has undergone two changes when Eysteinn Eysteinsson replaced James and in May 2000 when Matthías Matthíasson replaced Ingvar.
