Buttercup
The band Buttercup has been around for almost seven years. It was late in 1996 that Heiðar Kristinsson, Davíð Þór Hlinason, Símon Jakobsson and Valur Heiðar Saevarsson first played together. Since then the bands music has evolved from grunge rock to the pop rock music that characterises it now. The band spent their first year experimenting with their material but since then they have been one of the hardest-working bands in the country.
The band has released four albums and many songs on various compilation albums. The first album is called Meira (More) (1998) and includes the songs Meira dót and Mér er sama. The next album, Allt á Útsölu (Everything on Sale) was released in 1999 and contained songs like Búinn að fá nóg and Aleinn. After a productive collaboration with singer Íris Kristinsdóttir on the album the band decided to hire her as a second singer and percussionist. Before Christmas 2000 the album Buttercup.is was released containing the tracks Endalausar naetur, Hvenaer and Aldrei and that album got Buttercup where it is today.
In the end of 2000 drummer Heiðar quit the band due to family conditions and was replaced by Egill Rafnsson. Egill didnt stay very long and Heiðar consequently decided to join the band again. Late in 2001, the album Öll ljós kveikt (All Lights On) was released. Íris Kristinsdóttir left the band at the end of 2001 and was replaced by young and talented singer Rakel Sif.
