Herbert Guðmundsson
Herbert Guðmundsson was born in Reykjavík in 1953. He began playing music twelve years old with the band Raflost. After taking music lessons he was able to strum a few grips on his guitar, which became the basis of his song writing for the years to come. When Herbert was seventeen he was offered to sing with the band Tilvera.
After that Herbert sang with many different bands, e.g. Stofnþel, Sólskin, Dýnamít, Eik and Pelican. In those years Herbert also took part in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar and a few years earlier he took part in a production of Faust in the National Theatre with the band Tilvera who stood in for the band Trúbrot.
After that, Herbert got married and had children. He worked as a cook on fishing boats for eight years. It was a valuable experience for him when he sailed with the freighter MS Saga to Portugal. He had his guitar with him and began writing songs in his spare time. When he came home he moved to the village Bolungarvík and started singing with the band Kan. He was the front man in the band and was the main instigator for the band to record the album Í ræktinni (In the Gym).
Later Herbert moved to Reykjavík, started his solo career and released the album Dawn of the Human Revolution. It contained the song Cant Walk Away which made him famous in Iceland. A few years earlier, Herbert had released another solo album called Á ströndinni (On the Beach). A music video was made to Cant Walk Away and Herbert appeared on many television shows. He also played extensively around the country to promote his music. Since then, he has released the albums Transmit, Time Flies, Being Human and Faith.
