Kristjana Stefánsdóttir

Kristjana Stefánsdóttir was born in Selfoss in 1968. She finished Grade 8 in classical singing from Söngskólinn í Reykjavík music school in 1996. She went on to study at the jazz division of the University of Arts in Amsterdam, Holland until 1998.

She finished her B.A. degree in jazz singing with honours from the Royal Academy of Arts in Hague, Holland in 1999-2000. Her main instructor there was American jazz singer Rachel Gold. Kristjana regularly performs in Icelandic radio and television and has released many albums.

In the summer of 1994 she participated in the first performance of a composition by modern composer Atli Heimir Sveinsson at the Skálholt festival and in the spring of 1995 she performed at a concert in Selfoss with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. In 1996 she sang Icelandic jazz tunes on a live broadcast on Dutch national radioV.PR.O. accompanied by jazz pianist Agnar Már Magnússon.

In the summer of 1996 Kristjana took part in the production of variety show Skari Skrípó in Loftkastalinn theatre, directed by Baltasar Kormákur. There she was the other half of the duet Dobbel Dutch with musician/comedian Sigurjón Kjartansson.
