Quarashi

Solvi, Stoney and Hossi formed Quarashi in Iceland in the year 1996. Right away they toped the charts with their powerful and energetic songwriting and a year later their first self-titled album emerged. Never before had such a band existed in Iceland, mixing rock with rap and then blend it all together with a pinch of big beat and electronica. It also intergrades musical styles from all over the world to give it a very unique feel. People couldn’t get enough and soon their debut album went gold. After two years of performances all around Iceland their second album, Xeneizes, came out in the fall of 1999. Later, that one went gold as well. Xeneizes also caught the ears of record companies in the States and the following year they invited the gang over to record material for an album that would be released over there and all over the world. With them on the trip was Omar Swarez, who had performed on both their debut album and on Xeneizes and officially joined the band that year. Their labor bore fruit and in the year 2002 Mr. Jinx was released in the USA. With that album under their belts they traveled the world, going on a successful tour to America, Japan, Australia and then Europe. After such extensive traveling, founding member Hossi left the group to focus on his studies at the University of Iceland. The rest of Quarashi is now hard at work on new material in Iceland and have a new single out there. Mess It Up is the new single from Quarashi and the lucky people of Iceland are the only one who have had the change to enjoy it, yet. The 19-year-old Opee teamed up with Quarashi for that one and Mess It Up is undoubtedly the hit of summer 2003 in Iceland. Opee is slated to appear on more tracks with the Quarashi gang.
