Worm Is Green
Worm is Green is an electronic pop band from Iceland. Their album Automagic is released on TMT Entertainment, a sub-division of Thule Musik. Their music can best be described as a mixture of minimal electronica, with a touch of elements from pop music, similar to the music of bands such as Saint Etienne, Boards of Canada, and múm. Basically, beautiful melodies and all sorts of hypnotic and strange synthesizer generated sounds with lovely girl vocals on top. The album include a cover version of Joy Divisions classic hit "Love will tear us apart".
At first the Worms music was purely aimed at the underground music scene but as the band evolved they were joined by a vocalists, making the project even more appealing! Furthermore a bass-player was added to their live show and the band played several gigs in Reykjavik, including a set at the prestigeous Icelandic Airwaves Festival.
Press quotes:
Many of the tracks have an aching melancholy to them, which brings human warmth to the often gelid soundscapes... quite beautiful male and female vocal performances... LP utterly compelling. 4.5/5 DJ Magazine.
Shows off the label's more esoteric electronic face to a glorious light. It's dynamic and fresh... full of retro songwriting. What separates it from the rest of the blippy brigade are its lush vocals and song structures. 8/10 Future Music (june issue 2003)
The best adjective to describe this LP is 'Icelandic'. ...this album is serene but eerie, spiky but warm, and loads of other oxymoronic comparisons. JG
